BUKIT PANJANG UNDERPASS

BUKIT PANJANG UNDERPASS

In January 2014, the LTA (Land Transport Authority) awarded Ed. Züblin AG (Singapore Branch) with the Contract 9057 for the Design and Construction of Underpass for Bukit Panjang Station which is part of Singapore's Downtown Line Stage 2 (DTL2), a 20km underground MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) line with 8 stations and 4 interchange stations expected to be fully completed in 2016.
The scope of the project involves the construction of a new entrance and a pedestrian underpass connecting to the Bukit Panjang MRT station with covered linkway at junction of Bukit Panjang Road and Woodlands Road / Upper Bukit Timah Road which is currently under construction.
For the construction of the required temporary shafts with a depth of 15m a retaining wall system consisting of SBP (secant bored pile) are currently in progress. The temporary support for the underpass tunnels will be provided by a series of interlocking steel pipes installed by pipe jacking method over a length of 100m. Once installed the steel pipes with a diameter of 2.03m will form a box section that will accommodate the 4.2m x 6.7m cast in-situ pedestrian underpass.
Commuters alighting at the bus-stop along Bukit Panjang Road will have a convenient transfer to the MRT via the underpass. The residents residing nearby the New Entrance will have a direct access to the MRT Station.
